Department of Life Long Learning And Extension (DLLE)

The Department of Life Long Learning & Extension (DLLE) has been recognized as a Statutory Department of the University of Mumbai since 1994. It aims to promote a sustained rapport between the University & the Community. The Extension dimension of the Department facilitates the sensitization of the students to the socio-cultural realities.

The department offers extension work projects encompassing social issues to the students.The Department of Life Long Learning & Extension (DLLE) of our college started the enrollment of students from the month of June and it enrolled a total of 204 students for the academic year 2015-16.

The Department is spearheaded by Prof. (Ms) ShamiNimgulkar- Kamble (Economics Department) & three most enthusiastic teachers Prof. MahendraPachadkar (Commerce Department), Prof (Mr) Sandeep Gupta (Mathematics & Statistics Department)& Ms. RupaliKulkarni- Mishra ( Co-ordinator- IT) . To ensure efficiency in the execution of the extension work & to assist the teachers in the work involved, the extension activity of the Student Managers was felt pivotal. The pillars of the department (Student Managers) were: Kothari Devang, Chauhan Vishal, Chaurasia Khushboo Jain Dimple, Jain Chirag, Biyani Manisha, ChavanYash ,Agrawal Jyoti and Kamliya Stuti. The Department was inaugurated at the hands of Principal Dr. N.N. Pandey and Vice-Principal Prof Shekhar Chandratre.

The Department this year enrolled students under extension work project titled “Survey of Women’s Status”. The purpose of this project is to make the students sensitized about the problems faced by women & to generate a sense of realization among students to be a contributory factor towards their empowerment. Our students conducted a survey of women in the age group of 15 –35 years. They interviewed 25 to 50 women each in the areas chosen under the project.These projects thus provide a forum for exchange of ideas, innovations, amassing knowledge & provides a chance to increase the representative voice of those traditionally under served& ignored in society. The Extension work teachers attended the First Term Training Programme at Malini Kishore Sanghvi College, Vile-Parle on 20th August 2015 and the Second Term Training Programme at VidyarthiVidyapeethBhavan, Churchgate on 8th December, 2015. Our Field Coordinator Mr. ArvindLuhar addressed & guided our extension students in both the terms. His valuable guidance helped the students in completing their project work. As a part of the project work, students have also written essays of about 1500 words each on an array of social issues.

Our extension students participated in the One Day Mega Medical Check-Up & Distribution Campaign organized by our college at Osarvira- A tribal village in Palghar District. This campaign had twin objectives – i) To enable students understand the socio-economic realities of the under-privileged ii) To train students to grow up as responsible citizens without a self-centered worldview.

The Department of BMS had organized a Business Fair to Enhance the Entrepreneurship skills of the Students. 9 extension students- Chauhan Vishal, Jain Dimple, Agrawal Jyoti, Chaurasia Khusboo, PawarVaibhav, Shaikh Zufisha , Shah Shreya , Lohia Navratna and Shah Kajol participated in this Fair. They secured the prize for “Best Decorated Stall” from the college. The entire profit amounting to Rs. 1100/- was donated by these students for the community project.As a part of this initiative, our extension students also donated clothes, schools bags, notebooks, utensils, toys etc. Two medical practitioners were assisted by our extension students in carrying out the Medical Check – Up Campaign. To instill the qualities of research among our students, we also undertook a research project to assess the Socio-Economic Status of the Tribals in the said village.

We are proud to state that our college won the Second prize at inter-collegiate skit competition–UDAAN – ‘A Flight to Extension’ organized by the The Department of Life Long Learning & Extension (DLLE), University of Mumbai on 15th January, 2016 at St. Francis Institute of Management and Research, Borivali. Our skit titled “Lalkari”, performed at the UDAAN festival conveyed a strong social message of gender sensitization. Our Drama Director- Mr. RajendraLokhandewas the driving force in polishing the acting skills of our budding extension actors. Our extension work actors –Chauhan Vishal, KamliyaStuti, Jain Dimple, LokapurRohit, AgrawalJyoti, ChaurasiaKhusboo, AgrawalRuchi, KharwaBhavesh, PawarVaibhav, ShaikhZufisha , Patil Swati, Shah Shreya , LohiaNavratna and Shah Kajolreceived words of appreciation from both the audience as well as the judges.Mr. AkashBhosle also participated at UDAAN – Inter-collegiate Poster Making Competition. The college felicitated their efforts and dedicated perseverance by awarding them cash prize on the occasion of Annual Prize Distribution Ceremony which was conducted on 13th February.Mr. Vishal Chauhan (T.Y.B.COM Div A) , Ms. KhusbhooChaurasia (T.Y.B.COM Div –C, Ms. Dimple Jain (S.Y.B.COM Div – B) were awarded the “Best Student Managers” for the year 2015-16 by the college. The Department is grateful for all the help & support provided by the Management, Principal Dr. N.N.Pandey, teaching & the non-teaching staff.
