Bachelor of Management Studies - BMS

In the words of Peter Drucker, “The Essence of management is to make knowledge productive”.

This is precisely what we try to do in this program of Management Studies. BMS is a full time 3 – year undergraduate program – Affiliated to University of Mumbai. It is an extensive program of 6 semesters.

Considered as one of the best and top colleges for BMS, Our esteemed institution has introduced the Bachelor of Management Studies (BMS) Program from the academic year 2003-04.

This program provides basic and comprehensive understanding of management and inculcates in the learners the managerial and entrepreneurial skills, thus augmenting their expertise and endowment. It gives commensurate exposure of the business world to the learners through interactive sessions, projects, industrial visits, guest lectures and expert talks, internship programs and business fairs.

The BMS degree is essential to make students learn the fundamentals of management at the graduation level itself. Students will gain a broad understanding of the changing world of management, new business strategies, entrepreneurship, trade, finance, stock and risk analysis through the course.
This way, the students will not only be prepared well for jobs but they will also be able to take specialized master’s program with better understanding.

a.Administration And Operations:

In this field, you will have to look into the administration of a company and its daily operations. You have to ensure that everything is in smooth running order, and also have to look for ways to improve on current administrative and operational capabilities. This is an important management position, and you will be reporting to senior management. You will be responsible for many of the employees, and ensure everyone’s departments are performing at their optimal best.

b. Project Management (Executive Level)

Executive-level projects are the backbone of any organisation. These projects are at this level because they are important for the organization’s business. A lot is riding on such projects. You, as a part of the project management, have to ensure the projects are completed on time successfully. You have to manage everyone involved as a team, and be a good leader. You also have to prepare reports regarding the project for review by senior management.

c. Enterprise Management

When a company has large-scale operations with employees in the thousands and revenue is millions, then that company is an enterprise. Managing the day-to-day functionalities of an enterprise through ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) is the main task in enterprise management.

d. Human Resource Management And Development

The HR department is one of the most important departments in an organisation. As an HR, your role would be to ensure that you hire talented employees for the company, and ensure all the existing employees are happy. You also have to solve any professional grievances of the employees and have to be the communication bridge between the employees and the higher management. This is quite a responsible department as they ensure the whole company is working smoothly.

e. Customer Management

One of the most difficult yet important departments to work in is the customer management department. As someone in a managerial position, your main job would be to help get new customers, keep the existing customers happy, and keep the people working in the department happy and working as a team. Customer retention is so important because most of the business comes from existing customers. Therefore, this is one of the main roles of management in the customer management department.

f. Data Management And Systems Analysis

Positions in this department require you to have technical knowledge as well. Data management is the next big thing, and you need to adapt at using multiple software and methods for data collection, storage, management, and analysis. You should know if the current data management systems are enough or is there a need to upgrade or overhaul. You also need to be able to understand the data and prepare reports based on that data. Your reports provide management insight to make important decisions.

g. Sales And Marketing

Most of the profits are brought in by the sales and marketing departments. As a manager in sales, you will have to manage the people, ensure they are motivated and keep increasing their sales numbers. In the marketing department, you will have to manage the employees, create brand awareness by rightly marketing the product and services, and create marketing strategies that will help increase sales.

h. Financial Management

In financial management, there are many different kinds of roles and responsibilities. You can be a part of the accounting and finance department of a company and manage the money. In some companies, the finance department is about investing and trading in assets. You can become an advisor and advise on investment to the customers of your company. You can also be an independent financial advisor and earn a lot of money.

i. Communications Management

In a company, there is internal and external communication. This is mostly managed by the communications department. In this department, you will have to manage the outgoing communication that happens to customers, associates, partner companies, and the general public. It also applies to communication regarding our products and services. Regarding internal communication, this department has to manage inter-departmental communication, employee communication, and communication between staff and management.

The BMS Program conducts various activities all year around. Some of the activities provide insight into the working of the department and the college, some activities are for the overall development of the students. Right from holding orientation for the students, monthly Parents Teacher Meeting, Intra- collegiate events like Prashnotri, Library Day for the students to the prestigious EPL (Entrepreneurial Premier League) students are engaged and involved in the activities for their holistic development.

  • Orientation– Orientation is conducted every year for the students of First Year. The students along with their parents are orientated regarding syllabus, exam pattern, college activities & rules & to make the students aware about the program.
  • PTA Meetings – PTA Meetings are conducted on a regular basis during the year for Semester I, II, III, IV, V and VI, (2 in each semester) to inform the parents about their ward’s attendance and consequences for default in attendance below the minimum required.
  • Guest Lecture, Industrial Visit & Quiz Competitions– are conducted throughout the year for the students. This gives the students various industrial exposure and an enriching learning experience.
  •  Remedial Lectures– Remedial Lectures are conducted for the students to assist    them in the weaker subjects and support them in their learning process.
  • Entrepreneurial Premier League: Entrepreneurial Premier League (EPL) is the biggest event of BMS organized by the department for all the students of the college. It is the best practice of the department & is conducted every year. EPL provides a platform for students to showcase their entrepreneurial skills by giving them an opportunity to be an entrepreneur for a day.
  • Library Day– This event is organized for the students of the department. They are introduced to various aspects and sections of the library. Through this event students are encouraged to read not only curriculum related books but also magazines, articles and discuss the same in order to enhance their scope of knowledge.
  • Prashnotri – The department conducts ‘Prashnotri’ a quiz competition for all SFC students to learn the management concepts through fun tasks.
  • Talkology– A seminar-based event organized by the department and conducted by Industrial experts to acquaint the students with additional industrial knowledge. This gives students a better opportunity to learn, to be inspired and to introduce them to potential careers & jobs they can opt for.
  • Class ki Baat Mentor ke Saath– To motivate and guide the students of third year not only to give their best in academics, but also to make them aware about the current market situations, to help them to develop their communication skills, confidence and to help them to take a qualitative decision related to their future.
  • Victory 2K22– As a part of innovation the event was held for the students of BMS program. Class wise activity was conducted by the teachers for the students on the day before the festival of Dussera. It was a self-assessment activity to help the students in analyzing and overcoming their weakness and wrongful habits.

EPL (Entrepreneurial Premier League) – The BMS program organizes EPL, an annual intra-collegiate event for the students of the college to showcase their entrepreneurial skills. Entrepreneurial Premier League motivates students to explore education beyond the classroom walls and acquire skills that would propel their ideas. EPL has creatively come up with a platform of discovering among the students’ entrepreneurial skills, to learn first-hand about new ideas, to meet and know customers’ expectations, to learn collaboration, teamwork & to cope better with challenges in practical life. The department continued its best practice even online through a virtual platform and is now continuing its legendary offline practice.

Entrepreneurial Premier League-EPL2K23
Theme of the event: EPL2K23 this year celebrated the theme of “Adoring the States of India”. The theme signifies the concept of Unity in Diversity and this year EPL commenced to portray unity between the states of Maharashtra and West Bengal.
Object of the event: The main object of EPL is to inculcate an entrepreneurial mindset among students. The event aims to motivate students to take entrepreneurship as a career imbibed with leadership qualities using innovative and ethical business practices. Epl gives a platform to students to showcase their business skills by putting up  stalls and experiencing the same practically.

About the event: There were 21 stalls of size 10*10 in the foyer area. Each stall had a maximum of 4 students. As a part of CSR one stall was given chargeless to Ms. Priyanka Chitre who is a partially blind girl to display, sell and promote her business and products.

With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit offers students a practical perspective on the world of work. Industrial visits are organized by colleges to students with an objective of providing students functional opportunities in different sectors like IT, Manufacturing and services, finance and marketing. Industrial visit helps to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.

Objectives: –

  1. Industrial visit provides students a practical perception on the domain of work.
  2. It gives the students an acquaintance to current work practices to experience theoretical knowledge being taught at their college classrooms.
  3. Industrial visits provides an opportunity to interact with industries and know more about industrial environment
