Bachelor of Commerce (Investment Management)

Prahladrai Dalmia Lions College of Commerce and Economics a premier institute in Mumbai has introduced the Bachelor of Commerce (Investment Management) program in the year 2016-2017. B.Com. Investment Management has a wide scope in terms of future prospects. This program provides professional education for those wishing to pursue their careers in the fields of Investment, Securities market, International Investment, Wealth Management and Finance. The dual aspect of major of Investment Management enables students to understand the increasingly complex and critical area of finance coupled with knowledge of the practices of Investment Management. It has strong emphasis on developing analytical skills and offers an excellence grounding and professional competence in all aspects of commerce required for careers in the business and corporate sectors. It equips students with the knowledge to start working in finance and asset management as soon as they graduate and work with organizations such as the big four and even government institutions. The finance market is ever-growing with more and more people becoming aware of the benefits of investment and earning.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

SYLLABUS

  • The Department is led by an experienced co-ordinator and a team of young, energetic & dedicated core faculties who always strive to give their best.
  • Very good interpersonal relations inside and outside the department with all faculties associated with the department.
  • All faculties always strive to give their best and maintain student- teacher relationship.
  • Approach used is student-centric.
  • Systematic Planning, Organizing, teamwork among the Faculties.
  • One Day visit to RBI, SEBI, BSE, NSE etc.
  • Mentoring and Counselling to needy students.
  • Guest lectures for various important industrial practices in field of Investment, Financial Market and Financial Management.

USP of BIM Course:

  • While the course is primarily theoretical, there is a good blend of projects, case studies and industrial visits to enable a student to get well- versed with the functioning of the Industry.
  • There is also exposure to working in the industry during the Summer Internship Programs which is a component of the program.

Scheme of Examination:

The programme will have six semesters conducted on the revised pattern using Choice based Credit & Grading System.

Each course (subject) in all semesters will be evaluated for 100 marks which is bifurcated as 75 marks external examination and 25 marks internal evaluation, in which minimum of 30 marks in external and 10 marks in internal exam are required to pass a course.

Internal exams for all the semesters and external exams for semester I to IV are conducted by college and for semesters V and VI are conducted by the University of Mumbai.

  • Career options after successful completion of B.Com Investment Management vary from working with government financial institutions such as SEBI to pursuing research in stocks, and the capital market. Graduates can opt government sector jobs after graduation through various government exams conducted by Union Public Service Commission, State Public Service Commission, Local Body, SSC, FDI, RBI, LIC, SEBI, Banks and Maharashtra- Government Companies.

The graduates are also qualified to go for further studies in different specializations in M.Com and MBA.

  • Orientation – Making First Year students aware about the program.
  • PTA Meetings – PTA meetings were conducted during the year for Semester I, II, III, IV, V and VI to inform the parents about their ward’s attendance. This was done to keep parents in loop about the functioning of the college and lectures amidst the pandemic
  • Guest lectures for various important industrial practices in the field of Investment in Mutual Funds, Shares, and Government Securities etc.
  • The department organises various visits to RBI, SEBI, BSE, NSE etc. every year to enhance practical knowledge and experience of each and every student.
  • Organization of various activities such as Mind Booster, Notes making etc.
  • Seminars and webinars are being organised as per the needs and requirements of the students.

  • College organises seminars/webinars for the cognitive development of the students in which we provide them knowledge and benefits of investment to inculcate the habit of savings among them by providing them a digital platform where they can open a trading account and gain practical knowledge about online trading.
  • Social outreach for contributing to society by exposing students to collaborative efforts, ground level reality & understanding opportunities through field visits to various industrial places where they can explore themselves & showcase their skills & gain knowledge.
  • The BIM programme conduct an offline Intra- Collegiate event  named as ‘‘MIND BOOSTER 5.0’’ wherein the event consisted of 4 Rounds:- Round 1 ) – Knowledge Knockout Round , Round 2) Bulls eye, Round 3) Escape the Matrix, Round 4) The End Game. It was an educational cum fun event where a large number of students participated and benefited from the event

With an aim to go beyond academics, industrial visit offers students a practical perspective on the world of work. Industrial visits are organized by colleges to students with an objective of providing students functional opportunities in different sectors like IT, Manufacturing and services, finance and marketing. Industrial visit helps to combine theoretical knowledge with industrial knowledge.

Objectives: –

  1. Industrial visit provides students a practical perception on the domain of work.
  2. It gives the students an acquaintance to current work practices to experience theoretical knowledge being taught at their college classrooms.
