About the department
Department of English aims to enhance the English Language skills of its students. The department makes efforts to instill in the students a love for language learning.
The Department under NEP is teaching the following courses:
OE: Indian Short Stories and Academic Writing Skills
AEC: Business Communication I and Business Communication II
Understanding communication theory, concepts, practice and skills definitely help students advance themselves. But practice in communication skill is a major requirement.
The Department provides students with opportunities to showcase and enhance their skills – reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

- A well-planned yearly schedule of activities
- Efforts are directed towards strengthening of tutorials using the audio-visual mode
- Mobile phones are put to active use to enhance the teaching learning process
- Study material in form of worksheets and Ppts are provided to students.
- Constant teacher support to students through social media
- Bridge Course in Communication Skills is conducted every year for students of FYBCom
- Remedial lectures in the subject is conducted regularly for students who require remedial coaching

Communication Skills, Speaking Skills, Positive Thinking, Self-Awareness & Self Confidence, Emotional Intelligence, Grooming, Public Speaking, Internet Etiquettes, Using Gender sensitive Language.

Webinar on ““Literary Power of Storytelling was held on 9th April 2025 – Dr. Dilip Kumar, Regional Director, Indian Institute of Mass Communication, Jammu was the Keynote Speaker. The resource person on the topic “Food and Memories” was Dr. Vrushali V. Kaneri, Head of Department (English), of R. A. Podar College of Commerce and Economics (Autonomous), Mumbai.
Seminar by Prof. Dr. Navle Balaji Anandrao on “Corporate Literature: Contexts, Texts and Practices” on 17th August 2024.

2023-24
A Workshop on Soft skills and Communication: A workshop for students of FYBCom was conducted on “Soft skills and Communication” on 03rd October 2023.
Seminars on Emotional Intelligence were conducted by the teachers of the department on 4th, 7th, 28th August and 12th September 2023.
Seminars on Business Etiquette were conducted by the teachers of the department on 24th and 29th August 2023.
Seminar on Etiquette on the Internet/ Netiquette were conducted on 9th , 17th 21st and 23rd August 2023.
Workshops on Marketing – Promoting a Film were conducted on 9th, 24th and 25th August 2023.
Seminar on Using Gender sensitive Language was conducted by the department on 21 August 2023.

The Literary Debating and Advertising Society and the Dept of Business Communication conducted an ad making competition – “Jinglevertising” on 29 September 2022.
